This years Alro Steel - Michigan Junior Masters Association Ottman Memorial Championships have taken numerous twists and turns so far during the qualifying rounds. Each bowler has completed 18 games over three six game blocks and we now have the final 16 boys and 6 girls who will compete for the chance to be crowned this years champion on Sunday afternoon.

Defending champion Valerie Calberry (Brampton, Ontario) had to make a furious run in the second and third blocks to even get into the field but make it she did however, 5-time champion Bethan McGeary (New Kensington, PA) was not as fortunate as she missed the sixth and final qualifying position by eight pins to finish seventh.

The guys were just as close and furious as Tim Pfeifer (Cranberry Twp, PA) led the way for the guys by a fairly large margin over second place qualifier Adam Jablonski (Sterling Heights, MI). Pfeifer and Jablonski are the only two bowlers who have finished the 18 games of qualifying by averaging over 200 on the demanding "Crown Jewel" pattern that we use at each years championship event.

The field of 22 bowlers now will continue to test their endurance and emotions as they will face off in the match play round of the tournament. The girls will bowl two rounds of six games each, meeting each other twice with two position rounds, while the boys will bowl two eight game rounds, meeting each other once with a final position round game in the final game. After all this is completed, the top 5 boys and top 4 girls will advance to the championship step ladder finals which will be bowled using the traditional Brunswick Gold Pins.

The step ladder finals will begin on Sunday, June 15th at approximately 2PM after the year end awards are handed out following the conclusion of the match play portion of the tournament.
