RICHARD AND BOLDT TAKE HONORS IN PLYMOUTHThe Michigan Junior Masters Association found its way back to Plaza Lanes in Plymouth, Michigan for the 5th time in our history. John Kohler and his staff are always a great host, even with a miscue on the lane pattern for the weekend. The shot benefited the bowlers for the event as a modified house shot was mistakenly put dow instead of the challenging pattern we had expected to have. Carl Boldt (Waterford, MI) and Jordan Richard (tecumseh, MI) took advantage of the high scoring and worked their way through the field to earn the titles, the first for Boldt and second for Richard. Boldt won three matches in the stepladder finals as he moved past Nic Cooper (Clarkston, MI) 279-227 after Cooper had eliminated Andrew Anderson (Holly, MI) 247-213 in the first match, then defeated newcomber DJ Rose (Cottam, Ont.) 245-214 in the semi-finals and then completed his run with a win over another newcomber Brad Berak (Macomb, MI) 248-186 in the finals. Richard was the top qualifier after going 6-2 in match play and had to wait to see who she would be bowling for the title. Cheyenne Long (Willis, MI) defeated Brooke Wood (Davison, MI) in the first match 236-230 but then lost to three time champion Andreya Teuber (Swartz Creek, MI) 184-177. Teuber then faced off against Richard only to Richard out strike Teuber and win the match 246-232. Richard and Boldt also received the two Junior Gold spots we awarded for the event and will represent MJMA in Indianapolis in July 2012. We also awarded the potential for $2,650.00 in scholarships for this event brining the total for this season to $8,400.00 for this season. MJMA does follow the new guidelines for scholarships per the MHSAA rules that were established recently. Those high school atheletes with have there points awarded and they can apply for their share of scholarships once the graduate. This award will include academic requirements, community service and their points earned during bowling events. The next event will be in Kalamazoo, Michigan at Eastland Bowl on October 22nd and 23rd. Karen and Tim Knickerbocker have been great hosts and with the recent gifts for lane conditions our members can expect a more challenging lane pattern for this event. The qualifying on Saturday will start at 11:00AM while the Sunday match play will begin at 9:00AM. Entries are limited to 96 bowlers so get those entries in early. Rosters will be posted on the website at www.mjma.net at least one week prior to the event. We look forward to seeing everyone at Eastland Bowl in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
