GREENE AND WELLS ADD TO THE TROPHY CASE IN CLARKSTONThe 26th Annual Michigan Junior Masters Association Cherry Hill North Classic wrapped up on August 28th with Tylor Greene (Davison, MI) and Mary Wells (Westerville, OH) taking home top honors in their respective divisions. For Greene, who had won the Northpointe tournament this past summer, it was his first MJMA title while Wells took home her third MJMA event win. Wells took the top stop going into the stepladder finals but had to fight off a stiff challenge from the defending event champion Samantha Johnson (Wyoming, MI), who had beaten Wells in the final last year. Johnson, the number two qualifier, knocked off the youngster Sydney Brummett (Fort Wayne, IN) in the semi finals 248-165 after Brummett defeated Olivia Wirtz (Battle Creek, MI) in the first match 224-182. Wells and Johnson gave the crowd exactly what you would have expected to see in a finals match as neither lady was giving an inch to the other. Through eight frames it was anybodies match with only nine pins seperating the two combatents but when Johnson failed to carry a strike in the ninth frame all Wells had to do was match her opponent the rest of the way out and she did to win the match 237-228. The guys side was pretty exciting as well. After a high scoring first match that saw Jerome Penxa II (Romeo, MI) put up a 248 to win his match over Blake Nottle (Macomb, MI) 257-202, the scoring pace slowed for the first time all weekend. Penxa would win his second match by ousting Nicholas Cooper (Clarkston, MI) who shot a 300 over the weekend, 172-161. Penxa would then be ousted in the next match by Greene 190-186. However, Greene found what everyone else was looking for in the final as he threw six strikes in the first eight frames while Charles Easton (Sylvania, OH), our tournament leader, found it hard to find anything, In the end it was Greene taking the game and his first ever title 248-179. Two Junior Gold spots were awarded in the event as Samantha Johnson and Tylor Greene each earned their chance to represent MJMA in Indianapolis in July of 2012. All the step-ladder finalists were eligible to receive scholarships and the tournament fund could be worth as much as $2,150.00 to our bowlers. The next event will be on September 17-18, 2010 at Plaza Lanes in Plymouth, Michigan. Saturday
